Critical Brain Candy

I ran across this interesting article comparing the “violence rates” of various religions. The research doesn’t seem rigorous to any extent, but the numbers are so drastic that I find it hard to disagree with from my own limited knowledge of history.

What I find interesting, but have always thought to be true, is that Monotheistic religions tend to be more violent. I’m not sure of the true reason for this, but intuitively it seems that when a religion preaches that there is “one true god” it ends up being more “protective” of that status. Whereas a polytheistic religion naturally accepts more than one god, so are less likely to have a bad reaction to their neighbour claiming they know of other gods.

This is too good to not post. Ann Coulter, the crazy conservative zealot, was being interviewed on the CBC show “The Fifth Estate.” She claimed that Canada sent troops to Vietnam and when told that she was wrong, refused to back down. She finished with “I’ll get back to you on that.”
