All of the business about the next US supreme court justice is reaching it’s height of stupidity already. It’s also such a good guage of how far politics has degraded in this country.

You’ve got the fringe-right saying they will change rules and procedure to get their picks through. These same people have used those same procedures in the past, so getting rid of them is pretty short-sighted. All they’re trying to do is get what they want at any expense.

Then you’ve got the fringe-left saying they will fillibuster anything. Yes, of course I agree I don’t want the Republicans getting all of their neo-con agenda. But, the way you do that isn’t by fillibustering. If it’s an extreme case, sure. But, let’s face it, unfortunately one of the “perks” of owning all branches of government is that you can do pretty much anything you want – including appoint judges. The Dems would likely be better spending their time getting their message and machine ready for the next election cycle.

In this case I think both parties are harming themselves equally. They both look like babies.
