Exporting fear and anger
Jan 20
As posted on Kos today, I found this comment from outgoing Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage very interesting. How strange for a member of this Republican administration to show concern at how the US treats the rest of the world. The next magical logical leap they need to make is that their current strategies breed more terrorism, not less.
Anyways, here’s his quote:
“The biggest regret is that we didn’t stop 9/11. And then in the wake of 9/11, instead of redoubling what is our traditional export of hope and optimism we exported our fear and our anger. And presented a very intense and angry face to the world. I regret that a lot.”

Finally, the American government seems to have read my letters and taken my advice. I’m sick and tired of all these foreigners coming here with their education and ambition taking jobs away from unqualified American workers like me! I say it’s time to close the borders and put up a big wall around the country, but no, the snooty liberals in charge think that’s too agressive! So I say, stop exporting hope and optimism! Why do you think they come here? If we, as a nation, export nothing but fear and anger, noone will want to live here! And that’s what all patriotic Americans should strive for!
