A few good things today
Jan 23
Well, even though one bad thing happened today (Conservative minority), here is the bright side:
- The Conservatives didn’t get a majority. At least they won’t get the far-right part of their agenda.
- The NDP increased their seats by about 50% to 30.
- Martin to quit as Liberal leader
It’s time for the Liberals to regroup, pick a good leader, then be strong heading into the next election.

Well… you can’t expect Canadians to punish the Conservatives for Brian Mulroney forever. I suppose it may be worth it to give them a shot. Even if they do well, they’ve got their work cut out for them. Less than half of the minority governments of Canada have won in the following elections. And if they screw up, Canadian democracy is ready and willing to stomp them back down to 2 MPs, a school teacher and a backbencher from Quebec.
