You are cordially invited to attend the "DELIVERANCE AT HAND!" district convention of Jehovah's Witnesses
Now, to me the messaging seemed very strange. Being invited to a convention on deliverance is a pretty serious and ominous thing, considering I may find out that I’ll die shortly. But, I like the use of “cordially” to soften the blow. It’s kind of like telling someone they’re a nice person before kicking them in the nuts.
Further, the “DELIVERANCE AT HAND!” title was in huge font, so it’s hard to ignore. But, seeing that text first it was hard to not put it down immediately assuming it’s some crack-pot scheme.
Next, my thoughts turned to what life must be like to constantly think you’ll be killed by your god. There are others like that as well, notably the preachings of people like Jack Van Imp about the coming rapture. Perhaps living like this is somehow liberating, but it must be only in comparison to leading a crappy life otherwise.
Then, I found an article talking about this convention: Deliverance At Hand. I’m not sure, but I think the writer is ripping up the convention, but is a Jehovah’s Witness. Interestingly it seems they base part of their argument for their accuracy in predicting the date of deliverance on the fact that the name of their organization is the same as their god. “Coincidence? I think not.”
Also, check out the homepage of the website for that article, e-watchman. Their logo has a a nuclear explosion, the earth and Jesus. That’s some pretty good imagery.
Lesson of the day? In this digital world, fun things can still be delivered to your door on paper.

I found this post somehow (I Googled something or other) and read the previous comments. So, this is in reply to all I read.
It’s a very common belief that doing the best we can to be good people and live honest lives will make us happy and productive. And, for some it works. There are other people however, who see what kind of world we live in. They see peace treaties being signed and ignored. They see innocent people being killed due to economic, cultural, racial – and sadly – religious conflict. They see illness and death tear apart their lives. In other words, they see a world that sickens them. If ever there is a “doom”, we are living in it now. So where do the answers lie? Where do we go to find out if this is what life was meant to be like? If there is a God who cares? Is donating to a charity – though perhaps a very worthy cause – going to solve and erase the issues faced everyday worldwide or simply appease our conscience?
Knowledge is the key. Not rumor, not opinion, not theory. Factual knowledge of God’s word the Bible. (John 17:3) And, guess what? Any translation of the Holy Scriptures will do so long as it’s an accurate translation of the original Greek and Hebrew languages. (The New World Translation is simply a modern english translation. Compare it and see for yourself.)
You will find – everywhere you look – misgivings and speculations about every religion. You will also find that not every person that “claims” to be a Jehovah’s Witness truly is, just as many people who claim to be “devout Catholics” aren’t. Like was mentioned before, it doesn’t matter what we say, but if we practice what we preach. Jehovah’s Witnesses model their lives by Jesus Christ’s life pattern while here on earth. (1 Peter 2:21; John 14:12, 15) What did Jesus do and commission his followers to do? Two primary things: 1)Show love to all, just as he did. This would be an identifying mark of true Christians (John 13:34,35) and 2) to *preach* the good news of Jehovah God’s Kingdom (Matthew 24:14)which he also instructed us to pray for. (Matthew 6:9,10) How did he preach? He went to the people, and he instructed his followers to do the same. (Matthew chapter 10; 11:1)
I encourage you to seek the facts, as has been previously suggested. Contact the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in your area, go to www. watchtower.org (the ONLY offical website for JW’s), or just listen the next time they knock. And ASK QUESTIONS!
If you choose to do so, you will – at the very least – give yourself the opportunity to make an accurate, informed choice. (Oh, and I thought you may be interested in knowing that many people all over the US are doing just that because of that little handbill.)
Take care and have a good day.

Can you imagine people volunteering their time because simply they care about people and want worldwide peace? God’s Kingdom is the ONLY answer! The world is a mess right now and the bible is full of prophecy to tell us WHY this world is a mess. It has nothing to do with being killed by our god. Jehovah God is love and wishes all to be saved. Thanks to his son, Jesus we have this opportunity.

I’m flattered how popular this post has become for the JW crowd. I’m sorry to say I won’t be able to make it to your convention. I have to, uhh… do something not related to hearing wild predictions about the timing of my own demise. Maybe I’ll go for a walk, smell some flowers, and celebrate life rather than death.
But, please feel free to read the other articles on this site.
