Is this good hypocracy?

Saw this article today: U.S. tells Ottawa to ban ‘inhumane’ baby seal hunt.
Part of me says “Ok, that’s nice to be trying to use your influence for animal rights.”
The other part says “Excuse me? Talk to us about animal rights after you can claim any respect for human rights. After you stop killings tens of thousands of Middle Easterners per year. After you stop torturing them. After you stop denying people basic rights to attorneys and at a minimum the knowledge of what charges they face.”
Again, what’s hypocritical about this isn’t that it’s the wrong thing to do. It’s because the US has lost almost all credibility to “do good” throughout the world because of their recent abuses and foreign policy. Losing credibility or “goodwill” throughout the world is not considered a bad thing in neo-con planning, but this is just one small symptom of it.

Interesting. Strange sort of request though, because the fishermen do not take infant seals anymore and have not done so for a very long time.

There’s much more hypocrisy than that! The US government has been gradually weakening it’s own Endangered Species Act. Early in his first term, Republicans tried to repeal it altogether, but failed. So instead, they’ve been removing species one-by-one from the list, thereby freeing up their habitats for drilling or whatever. Hundreds of species have been secretly removed from the list because the requirements for “endangered” and “threatened” statuses have been made much harder to meet. The US government claims that these species have rebounded. In fact, all they did was lower their standards for a “rebound”.
The Republicans hate the endangered species act because it’s anti-corporate. How can you possible tell a company that they can’t stripmine just because of some birds or rodents? To Republicans that is completely nonsensical. Thus, for the US government to wag its finger at Canada is completely absurd. They should take a lesson from us and just legalize baby bald-eagle clubbing. But of course, Republicans don’t like to be that obvious with their evil.
