Obama: what a difference a week makes
Jan 26
Wow, the world seems so much better after less than a week:Obama’s Order Is Likely to Tighten Auto Standards
Bush had rejected the right of States to set their own vehicle emissions standards tighter than the EPA, while at the same time not letting the EPA reduce the standards. Obama has issued an order to begin the process of reversing that.
I’m actually not sure what is better, allowing the states to define the standards themselves, or just having the EPA set a better standard. But, in the end it’s probably the same, as enough large states would join in to make manufacturers adopt it nationally.
As a tangent, I always thought it was assinine that the EPA under Bush wouldn’t allow cars meeting Californias higher efficiency standards to be sold in other states.

Last week Obama signed an executive order invalidating every legal decision made by the Bush administration since Sept. 11, 2001. Not just an end to torture and rendition, but a move to restore the constitution and the Geneva convention. This was what I was hoping a Democratic president would do, but I really didn’t believe it would ever happen.
Obama has already lived up to some of his toughest campaign promises, and the media is already happily turning against him, looking for something, anything, to criticize. Like the conservatives popping up to say that overturning the rule against government funding for agencies that distribute condoms was akin to promoting abortion, completely dodging the massive failure of abstinence education and the massive spread of AIDS worldwide.
But if Fox News hates Obama, that’s just more reason to love him!!!
