Rogers lowers bandwidth caps as Netflix announces entry into Canada
Jul 23
Oh, Rogers, how we love to hate you: Rogers lowers download limits as Netflix looms. I’m really curious about using Netflix. I don’t have cable but would like to pay a reasonable amount for a legitimate service for content. I’m curious if Netflix has up-to-date shows or just the entire seasons that get released on DVD.
I keep hoping Hulu might come up to Canada.
But, Rogers, I promise to love you forever if you let me upgrade to the iPhone 4 at the full subsidized price.

I use Netflix as a flat-rate on-demand video service. $9 US a month for access to their entire selection at any time beats $1.50+ per movie from Rogers. It only makes sense for Rogers to oppose it. You don’t have to use the service many times to recoup the cost, and every movie is free after that. If it catches on, they’ll have to change their entire payment scheme for on-demand content to something like a flat monthly charge on your bill for all-you-can-eat.
Granted, Netflix’s on-demand selection appears to be limited to B movies and anything made before 1997. But they do have full seasons of TV series. And that’s how I prefer to use the service, as a cross between Hulu and Blockbuster. There are a lot of niche cable and HBO series that people tell me I should watch, and I can usually find the first season or two on Netflix.
